OK, I'm wondering, how do you teach your dog to do new stuff?
Sit!
I hold the treat above Bonnie's head and I tell him to "Sit" and he will automatically sit. If he doesn't I hold his back with one of my fingers. When he sits, I give him a treat.
Come here!
I tell Bony to sit, and I walk away a bit, than I tell him to come, and I show him a treat, so he comes, I repeat that a few times, But later don't show him a treat, and LATER, don't use it.
How do you teach them new stuff.
